Actor and comedian Pandu passes away due to COVID-19

Veteran actor and comedian Pandu died of Covid-19 on May 6 morning at a private hospital in Chennai. He was 74. Pandu and his wife Kumudha, who had tested positive for Covid-19 recently, were getting treatment at a private hospital in Chennai. His wife continues to be in the ICU.

Pandu was known for playing comedy roles in Tamil films. Pandu’s demise has left Kollywood in shock. He is survived by his wife Kumudha and sons, Prabhu, Panchu, and Pintu.

Producer and distributor G Dhananjayan took to Twitter to share the sad news with his followers. He wrote that it is very shocking to hear the news about actor Pandu’s death and paid his last respects.

Dhananjayan wrote, “Better to switch off from all social media for sometime. Very shocking to read this morning news. #RIPPandu sir, one of the finest human beings & actors. Going to be on home quarantine for some days. Be safe at home friends. Take care. Very challenging days ahead (sic).”

Pandu developed a keen interest in films after completing his schooling. He made his debut as an actor in 1970 with Maanavan in which he played the role of a student. However, it was his role in Karaiyellam Shenbagapoo that fetched him recognition. In the film, he shared screen space with his brother Idichapuli Selvaraj.

Some of Pandu’s famous films are Kadhal Kottai, Panakkaran, Deiva Vaaku, Rajadhi Raja Raja, Naattamai, Ullathai Allitha, Vali, Jodi, Ennavale and Citizen, to name a few.

Aside from this, Pandu is known to have designed the ‘Twin Leaves’ party logo for the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK).
