WhatsApp starts to roll out Avatar features for profile photos

Meta-owned messaging service WhatsApp is reportedly testing Avatar features for Android beta users. It allows users to create a custom avatar for their profile picture. The app is currently rolling out this feature for select Android beta users.

A new report shared by WABetaInfo, the Meta-owned instant messaging app will soon be rolling out the avatar feature to Android, iOS, and desktop users worldwide. The new Avatar feature is currently available on WhatsApp Android Beta 2.22.21.3. It is expected to release soon for beta users on iOS and Desktop as well.

The WhatsApp development tracker has shared a few screenshots of the same showing how to customize and select an avatar, choose a background color, and set an avatar as a profile picture.

Meanwhile, WhatsApp has also rolled out a new Instagram-like feature for Apple iPhone users with the latest update. WhatsApp users on iPhone can now react to status updates shared by other users through a dedicated emoji panel. The emoji panel for WhatsApp status is quite similar to what the platform rolled out for messages when it first introduced the feature.

The new WhatsApp status feature is mentioned in the changeling of a recent update as well. After the update, Apple iPhone users can react to status updates by choosing one of these available emojis – Smiling Face with Heart-Eyes, Face with Tears of Joy, Face with Open Mouth, Crying Face, Folded Hands, Clapping Hands, Party Popper, and Hundred Points.
