What led cops to mystery vehicle that killed ACP

New Delhi, Aug 1 (IANS) The Delhi Police has traced the mystery vehicle that hit and ran a city Traffic Police ACP and killed him on the spot.

Sanket Kaushik, 58, was killed near Rajokri in South West Delhi on July 25 at around 8 p.m. The police team joined dots using technical surveillance after it found a piece of an iron angle from the spot.

“It was a challenge for the police to solve the case as the vehicle involved could not be identified. Hence, marathon efforts were made to establish the identity. The piece of an iron angle found at the spot was minutely examined and it turned out to be from a tempo.

“The entire vicinity near the place of incident was thoroughly checked and at least 15 CCTV footage were collected and analysed,” said Devender Arya, DCP South West Delhi.

“During the scanning a tempo with white driving cabin and a brown body was noticed near the place of incident during the time of the incident.

“On further scanning of other footage it was again spotted, which ascertained that the suspected vehicle came from Rangpuri towards Gurugram through service lane, took U-turn under the Rajokri flyover and moved towards the place of incident.

“All the routes followed by the vehicle were ascertained and the record of warehouses of Rangpuri matched. It was found that one vehicle of the same dimension left its warehouse near the same expected time.

“On July 31, the details of the vehicle were obtained from the warehouse. The tempo was traced and the driver, Amit Pulami, 28, who was driving the tempo at the time of incident apprehended from the parking.

“On examining the tempo it was found that the same has been repaired by the driver from a garage at Rangpuri, Mahipalpur, New Delhi, to mislead the police,” said the officer.
