Instagram users now would require to fill in their birthday details to block sensitive content for minor users.
Recently Instagram updated a blog post about it, informing that Instagram will ask the users who haven’t updated their birthday details yet. According to Instagram, it has made several changes to its functionalities to safeguard minors. They made a change in March, by which adults won’t be allowed to send messages to people under age 18 if they do not follow them.
However, after the age mandatory, Instagram would be able to offer a more personalized user experience to the users. For instance, Instagram would be able to restrict the advertisers to target minors on the platform.
Firstly Instagram will start asking to submit the birthday when the user opens the Instagram app. A notification will be shown at the top several times. After exceeding a certain period of time, it will be mandated to continue the use of the app. Besides, Instagram will show warning screenshots.
Assuming that some people may provide wrong birthday information, they are developing new systems to counter that.
