Recoveries fall, 204 Covid cases raise K’taka tally to 6,245

Bengaluru, June 11 (IANS) Bucking the high discharges trend of the past few days, more number of infections have been recorded in Karnataka in the past 24 hours, with 204 Covid cases raising the state’s tally to 6,245, said an official on Thursday.

“New cases reported from Wednesday 5 p.m. to Thursday 5 p.m., 204,” said a health official.

Unlike the past few days, the number of discharges have reduced compared to the number of infections.

In the past 24 hours, 114 patients got discharged.

Like everyday, domestic returnees dominated the caseload, accounting for 157 of the new cases.

Maharashtra returnees formed the bulk of the returnees, 148 or 92 per cent of the returnees.

Meanwhile, new cases with contact history rose to 37.

In the past 24 hours, cases spiked in Yadgir, Udupi, Bengaluru Urban, Kalaburagi, Raichur, Bidar, Shivamogga, Davangere, Kolar, Mysuru and Ramnagar.

Among the new cases, Yadgir contributed (66) cases, followed by Udupi (22), Bengaluru Urban (17), Kalaburagi (16), Raichur (15), Bidar (14), Shivamogga (10), Davangere (9), Kolar (6), Mysuru and Ramnagar (5 each), Vijayapura (4), Bagalkote and Uttara Kannada (3 each), Dakshina Kannada, Hassan and Dharwad (2 each), Bengaluru Rural, Chikkamagaluru and Koppal (1 each).

Of the new cases, seven patients are suffering from Influenza Like Illness (ILI) and four from Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI).

Three persons succumbed to the virus, a 35-year-old man another 60-year-old man from Bengaluru Urban and a 28-year-old woman from Raichur.

Among the new cases, there 109 are men and 95 women, including 23 children below 10.

Of all the cases, 3,195 are active, 2,976 have been discharged, 72 have died while 10 are admitted to ICUs.

Active cases rose to 3,195 from 3,108 in the past one day.

In the past 24 hours, Karnataka tested 8,000 samples. Of this, 7,502 returned negative.

In total, 4.16 lakh samples have been tested so far, of which 4.02 lakh have returned negative.

Currently, Yadgir is leading the state’s Covid-19 burden with 626 active cases, followed by Udupi (619), Kalaburagi (503), Raichur (290) and Bengaluru Urban (258), among others.

Bengaluru Urban has accounted for 23 deaths, followed by Kalaburagi (8), Bidar, Vijayapura, Davangere and Dakshina Kannada (6 each) and Chikkaballapura (3 each), among others.
