Ram Gopal Varma slams PVR and INOX Cinemas after they refuse to screen Khatra (Dangerous)

Indian film director and producer Ram Gopal Varma’s Khatra (Dangerous) is all set to hit the theatres on April 8. However, the filmmaker was in for a shock when a few theatres refused to screen the film because of its lesbian theme. The film, which was sent to the Censor Board of Film Certification, received an ‘A’ certificate. Apsara Rani, Naina Ganguly, and Rajpal Yadav play the leading roles in Khatra (Dangerous) .

The filmmaker said in his Tweet, “@_PVRcinemas, @INOXCINEMAS refusing to screen my film KHATRA (DANGEROUS) becos it’s theme is LESBIAN ,and this after Supreme Court repealed section 377 and censor board already passed .it is a clear cut ANTI stand of their managements against #LGBT community (sic).”

Ram Gopal Varma also requested the LGBTQ community and everyone to stand up against the theatres for refusing to screen the film. “I request not only the #LGBT community but also everyone to stand up against the management of @_PVRcinemas and @INOXCINEMAS for their ANTI #LGBT stand ..This is an insult to human rights (sic),” he posted.

Khatra (Dangerous) is a crime thriller drama, which marks his first lesbian film. According to Ram Gopal Varma, Khatra is a love story between two women after the abrogation of Section 377.
