Pakistan again violates LoC ceasefire in in J&K’s Poonch

Jammu, July 23 (IANS) After violating the ceasefire on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district early on Thursday, Pakistan again opened unprovoked firing in another sector of the district in the evening, a defence official said.

Defence Ministry spokesman Devender Anand said at about 5.15 p.m., Pakistan began small arms firing and mortar shelling along the LoC in Balakot sector.

Pakistan had, earlier in the day, violated the ceasefire in Qasba sector of the district.

The Indian Army has retaliated befittingly at both the places, the spokesman added.

Pakistan has been repeatedly violating the ceasefire on the LoC in Poonch district for the last three days.

Since January this year, Pakistan has violated ceasefire on the LoC over 2,711 times, leading to the death of 21 civilians and 94 others getting injured.

The safety of the families, homes, cattle and agricultural fields has become an insurmountable problem for hundreds of border villages living along the LoC and the international border in J&K.
