No max Covid cases in southwest Delhi despite maximum tests: Official

New Delhi, July 13 (IANS) While the Covid-19 tally in India spiked on Monday with 28,701 coronavirus cases and 500 deaths in the last 24 hours, the District Magistrate of the national capital’s southwest district claimed that the area does not have the highest number of cases even as the maximum tests were conducted there to detect the dreaded virus.

“There is a misconception that as there are 100 plus containment zones in southwest district so it has the highest number of cases in Delhi. It is not correct. In fact, the district is pro-actively dealing with the situation and containing the spread of the disease and it should be projected as a positive action on the part of the district administration,” said Rahul Singh, District Magistrate, southwest district.

He added that having more number of containment zones is a good thing as it will help in controlling the spread of the virus.

Singh said that the district has conducted the highest number of Rapid Antigen Test (RAT). A total of 43,044 tests were conducted in the district since June 18.

The rate of recovery of the Covid-19 patients has touched 62.93 per cent. India, however, remains the third worst-affected country after the US and Brazil.

During the last 24 hours, 2,19,103 samples were tested, as the testing lab network continues to expand. As on date, more than 1,194 labs have enabled people to undergo coronavirus tests.

With 1,573 new coronavirus cases and 37 deaths in the last 24 hours, the national capital recorded a total tally of 1,12,494 cases, including 3,371 deaths.
