Misconduct with medical staff not to be tolerated: Delhi CM

New Delhi, April 9 (IANS) Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, here on Thursday, said the people misbehaving with the healthcare personnel would face the strict punishment.

“I warn all those who misbehave with doctors or nurses. It will not be tolerated. Those involved in any such action will have to face the strictest punishment,” the Chief Minister said and added, instructions had been issued for the action.

Kejriwal, while referring to a Wednesday’s incident where two female doctors of Safdarjung Hospital were allegedly assaulted by their neighbours, said the accused had been arrested.

“Two doctors of Safadarajng Hospital were mistreated because they were treating coronavirus patients. This is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. I spoke with the Lieutenant Governor about this and he informed me that the people who misbehaved have been arrested,” Kejriwal said.

“The medical staff are fighting double battles. First, they are fighting against the coronavirus from the forefront. When they go to home, they are mistreated,” Kejriwal lamented. “Just imagine about the crisis if they (health professionals) stopped working,” he said.

There has also been reports that the healthcare workers were being pushed out of their rented accommodations and mistreated by the landlords.

The Delhi Health and Family Welfare Department has asked the district administration and the police to take strict action against landlords and houseowners who are forcing doctors, paramedical staff, healthcare personnel to vacate their rented residences.
