Magistrate, cops in isolation as Kerala prisoner tests Covid+

Thiruvananthapuram, May 24 (IANS) A magistrate, numerous police officials and few health workers in Kerala have been asked to go into isolation, after a remand prisoner turned Covid-19 positive.

The 40-year-old prisoner who was arrested by the local police in an excise case was sent to a sub jail near here.

After his test results came, he turned positive, forcing the authorities to ask the police officials attached to the Venjaramoodu Police station to go into isolation.

Speaking to IANS, a police official attached to the concerned station confirmed that police officials who got in contact with this remand prisoner have been asked to go into isolation.

“The arrest was made on Thursday and now that his results came and he has turned positive. We are told that tomorrow our swab will be taken and hence we are asked to go into isolation. We are yet to be told on the number of days that we will be in isolation. Yes, the local magistrate also has been asked to go into isolation,” said a police official who did not wish to be identified.

Apart from the police officials attached to the police station, a few other police officials working at the local jail, where the Covid positive prisoner was housed, have also been asked to go into isolation.

Likewise health officials where the prisoner was brought to a hospital have also been asked to get ready to go for isolation.
