Lockdown forces labourers to walk to their destinations

New Delhi, March 23 (IANS) Following the lockdown due to the novel coronavirus outbreak, labourers are being forced to leave the national capital as they are left with no work.

The unavailability of transport has added to their woes as they are now not able to go to their home towns also.

On Monday, some labourers were seen standing at Hazrat Nizamuddin and Sarai Kale Khan bus stations waiting for buses.

Vikram Tanwar, a labourer, told IANS: “I had to walk down all the way to Hazrat Nizamuddin bus station from Old Delhi as there was no transport available. I have to go to Rajasthan for which I will have to board the bus from Badarpur border. If we don’t get any transport from there, I will walk to Rajasthan from there.”

Asked why he was leaving for Rajasthan when the government has asked them to stay wherever they are, he said Rajasthan is my native place and since I don’t have work here so I have to go.

The police is asking people not to gather at one place in order to avoid mass gathering.
