LG 2018 TV models to support Apple AirPlay 2, HomeKit

San Francisco, Sep 8 (IANS) LG has confirmed that AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support will come to some of its 2018 TV models, in addition to its newer 2019 and 2020 TVs.

AirPlay 2 allows iPhone and iPad users to stream content from their devices to compatible LG TVs while HomeKit lets user control and integrate a TV with Apple’s smart home ecosystem.

“Customers worldwide can now enjoy the Apple TV app on LG 2018 OLED and Super UHD TVs, with UHD TV models to follow. LG’s 2018 TVs will add support for Apple AirPlay 2 and HomeKit later this year, and more details will be shared when these features become available,” the company said in a tweet on Monday.

In April, LG indicated in a support document that it planned to add AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support to some of its 2018 smart TVs by October 2020.

Last week, LG’s UK Twitter account said it had “no plans” to update its pre-2019 TVs with support for AirPlay 2 or HomeKit. However, that tweet has since been deleted.

In addition, LG also announced worldwide support for Apple’s TV app on select LG 2018 OLED and Super UHD TVs, with support for UHD TV models to follow.

The announcement follows media reports last month that the Apple TV app had begun showing up for some users.
