Kota students are my family, responsibility: LS Speaker

New Delhi, March 30 (IANS) Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, here on Monday, assured all help to the outstation students studying at coaching centres in the Kota-Bundi area, his parliamentary constituency in Rajasthan, where they stuck amid the countrywide lockdown.

Birla also assured the family members of these students that he would take care of their wards.

“The children who come to Kota for coaching are members of my family. Their parents, guardians remain restless. My responsibility is that they have no problem. If they have any problem, other than movement outside, they can contact my Kota and Delhi office,” Birla tweeted.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared a 21-day lockdown, since March 24, to contain Covid-19.

In the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, most of Kota’s over 1.5 lakh outstation students left the coaching hub to return to their hometowns or find accommodations near their examination centres.

However, around 30,000-35,000 students continue to live in the city as train, air and bus services have been cancelled.
