Jharkhand: FIR against Tej Pratap Yadav for violating pandemic rules

Ranchi, Aug 28 (IANS) Ranchi Police on Friday lodged an FIR against Tej Pratap Yadav, former Bihar health minister and son of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, for violating the Jharkhand government’s order during the Covid-19 pandemic, officials said.

The FIR has been filed on the complaint of Circle Officer (CO) Prakash Kumar of Ranchi. Kumar in a written complaint to Chutia police station said “Room number 507 of a hotel was inspected by police and officials of Ranchi district administration on Thursday night. It was found that Tej Pratap Yadav, son of Lalu Yadav, stayed there without seeking permission of the state government. Tej Pratap returned back to his home state Bihar without following the protocol of 14-day home quarantine.

Based on the complaint of the CO, Chutia police station on Friday lodged FIR against Tej Pratap under Indian Penal Code (IPC). An Investigating Officer has also been appointed to probe the matter.

Earlier, the hotel in Ranchi was booked for allegedly offering a room to Tej Pratap. According to the police, an FIR was lodged against the owner and manager of Hotel Capital Residency.

According to the government order, during Unlock 3.0, hotels, religious places and gyms are not permitted to operate in Jharkhand.

Police said Tej Pratap Yadav reached here at 2.30 a.m. on Thursday to meet his father. He stayed at Hotel Capital Residency in Ranchi. His meeting with Lalu Yadav lasted for nearly two-and-a-half hours.

The Ranchi district administration and police raided the hotel and found evidence of Tej Pratap’s stay there.

The BJP has demanded action against Tej Pratap and came down heavily on the state government for allowing the meeting with Lalu Yadav in violation of norms.

“An FIR should be lodged against Tej Pratap for violating the guidelines for coronavirus. He came in a large convoy and went to RIMS causing trouble for the patients. Tej Pratap stayed at the hotel which is also a violation of the guidelines. The state government is allowing Lalu Yadav to hold meetings despite being a prisoner,” said BJP leader Rabi Bhatt.
