The International Tiger Day is observed on July 29 annually to create public awareness about tiger conservation.
The day was created at the Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit in Russia in 2010. The Word Tigers day aims to promote a global system for protecting the natural habitats of tigers and to raise public awareness and support for tiger conservation issues.
What is the significance of International Tigers Day:
According to World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), The population of wild tigers had dropped by more than 95 percent since the beginning of the 20th century. Therefore, it becomes extremely important to save these wild cats. International Tiger Day plays an important role in it by spreading awareness and by working towards the conservation of tigers.
Now, WWF offices, organizations, celebrities, government officials, families, friends, and individuals around the world, and 13 tiger range countries have come together to commit to double the number of wild tigers by 2022.
The theme of International Tigers Day 2021:
This year the theme for this international day is – “Their Survival is in our hands”. Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, last year the celebration is going to be held online.
