In Delhi since lockdown 4.0: 2,265 new cases, 48 deaths

New Delhi, May 22 (IANS) Since the relaxations of the coronavirus lockdown 4.0 was imposed in Delhi from Tuesday, at least 2,265 new coronavirus cases and 48 deaths have been reported in the city with the positive case count reaching 12,319 on Friday and death toll mounting to 208.

As per the Health Report of the Delhi government, among the total cases, 6,214 cases are active.

Of these, 3,396 are those having no or mild symptoms and are either kept at home and COVID care centres.

“As many as 2,881 COVID positive cases are kept at home isolation and515 people are in the 12 COVID care centres,” the Health Department said.

About 48 per cent of the cases have recovered in the city, it said.

“A total of 5,897 cases have recovered so far,” it added.

Also, 1,835 patients are in the hospitals and of these 27 are on the ventilator.

The Delhi government on Monday announced a number of relaxations in the lockdown which were implemented from Tuesday.

While on Tuesday, a record 500 cases — highest till May 19 — were reported, the next day, the city witnessed even higher numbers of cases — 534. On Thursday, the cases reported saw a jump with 571 new cases while on Friday, the jump was even higher. With 660 new cases, the cases count has reached 12,391.

The death reported in the city since the outbreak of the infection was 160 till Monday. It reached 166 on Tuesday and 176 on Wednesday. On Thursday, it jumped to 194 and on Friday it breached the 200-mark and reached 208.

Meanwhile, over the reports of mismatch in the covid death toll, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain said the government is not hiding any data.

With the current jump in numbers, Delhi says it is well prepared.

As per the preparations of the Delhi government, it is ready to deal with more than 1,000 cases per day.

The government is also working towards increasing the number of beds in the city. From 2,000 beds with oxygen support for COVID-19 patients to 4,000 such beds.

In March, while speaking about the city’s preparation to fight coronavirus, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had said the government is ready to deal with 100 cases per day, while back then, the patient rate was four to five cases a day.

The Delhi government had formed a committee of doctors to plan the preparations. They submitted a report on what should be the preparations, if the cases increased in three categories — on daily case count — 100 cases; 500 cases and 1,000 cases.
