Google Updating New Feature, Will Allow Users To Limit Alcohol Ads

Recently Google has come out with greater controls for sensitive ad topics, which will allow people to limit viewing alcohol ads.

According to Google, they collected feedback from people where they have preferred to see fewer alcohol ads, with gambling as an additional option.

One Google blog post states that Google was working with the International Alliance for Responsible Drinking (IARD) and its members, leading beer, wine, and spirits producers.

Henry Ashworth, President, and CEO of the International Alliance for Responsible Drinking said that,

IARD’s engagement with Google means users of the platform, starting with YouTube, will have the option to see fewer alcohol ads. Our members are determined to give people greater control over whether they see alcohol-related marketing online. Respecting these personal preferences and recognizing differences in culture requires sensitivity and action, that’s why we hope this partnership is the start of a bigger movement.”

Google is the world’s top search engine, where billions of people come and search billions of queries each day. They always look forward to making a healthy ecosystem between advertisers, and the users. Being industry experts, they have sophisticated technologies and advanced features that enable users to set their ad preferences. Features like “Mute this ad” were rolled out a long time ago, allowing people to choose which ads they’d rather not see. This new feature would be an addition for the users to select, control alcohol and gambling ads, and further control ad experience.

According to that blog post, this new control in ad settings will roll out gradually, beginning with YouTube Ads in the US and their aim to introduce this new feature for Google Ads, YouTube globally in 2021.

However, the countries, where serving alcohol and gambling ads are already restricted are likely to see no changes in their policies.
