First death, 13 new Covid-19 cases in Gurugram

Gurugram, May 21 (IANS) The health officials reported, here on Thursday, first Covid-19 death of the city. The deceased, a resident of sector 53, had been admitted to the civil hospital. He was later shifted to the PGI, Rohtak.

On Tuesday, a 54-year-old man of Ganga Vihar, who allegedly committed suicide after coming to know that his wife was infected with coronavirus, was found Covid-19 positive.

An elderly man of Fazilpur village, who died due to heart attack in April, was also infected with Covid-19. After his death, the entire village was declared a containment zone.

During the day, health officials detected 13 more Covid-19 cases in the district. While the four new cases are from sector 10A, two cases each are from sector 7, Jawahar Nagar and Dundehera, one case each are from sector 54 and the Chanderlok area.

All these persons had come in contact with Covid-19 patients, said Gurugram Civil surgeon J.S. Punia.

“They have been isolated in different hospitals and their houses been declared quarantine homes. We are in the process of collecting samples of their family members,” said Punia.

Gurugram has reported 239 Covid-19 cases and 99 of them are in various hospitals. 140 patients had been cured and discharged in the district, Punia added.
