Facebook Has Honoured A Man From Manipur For Finding Bugs On WhatsApp

The 22 Years Old Young Man Also Included In The Facebook Hall of Fame 2019.

Facebook has honoured a man, Zonel Sougaijam for detecting bug from Facebook-owned popular messaging app WhatsApp. He is a 22 years old civil engineer.

This young man finds a WhatsApp bug that violated the privacy of users.
The social media giant Facebook bought the most popular messaging app WhatsApp in 2014. As facebook owns WhatsApp, they awarded $5000 to Zonel. Besides that, Facebook also added him in the ‘Facebook Hall of Fame 2019’.

In the ‘Facebook Hall of Fame’ for this year is name is currently at the 16th position in a list of 94 people.
Sougaijam told PTI that, “During a voice call through WhatsApp, the bug used to allow the caller to upgrade it to a video call without the authorisation and knowledge of the receiver. The caller was then able to see what the other person was doing, violating the privacy of the receiver,”.

Earlier this month, there were reports that Facebook has honoured a man from Kerala too.

Zonel said, after detecting the bug, he informed the issue to the Bug Bounty Program of the Facebook, which deals with the violation of privacy matters, in March.
He said Facebook Security team acknowledged his report on next day and their technical department fixed the bug within 15-20 days. On a mail sent to Zonel from Facebook, they said in “After reviewing this issue, we have decided to award you a bounty of $5000,”.
