DSLSA announces Rs 2 lakh compensation for Paschim Vihar victim

New Delhi, Aug 7 (IANS) The Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLSA) on Friday announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the 12-year-old girl who was allegedly sexually assaulted in the city’s Paschim Vihar area earlier this week.

The amount, which is interim compensation, is being given by the DSLSA’s western district.

On Thursday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced assistance of Rs 10 lakh for the girl who is battling for her life at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences. The Chief Minister, along with Delhi Commission for Women chief Swati Maliwal, also met the family of the victim at the hospital.

Meanwhile, a 33-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the case. The man, identified as Krishna, also tried to kill the girl. Delhi Police managed to arrest the accused within 48 hours of the crime.

“On Tuesday, a 12-year-old child was assaulted. A case under POCSO Act was registered. We had immediately formed more than 20 teams under the supervision of DCP Outer Delhi,” Joint CP, Western Range, Shalini Singh said.

“During interrogation, Krishna corroborated the sequence of events which led to the assault on the child,” the police officer said adding that the accused has four criminal cases against him including that of murder, attempt to murder, and burglary.
