Digvijaya trying to influence RS polls: BJP to EC

New Delhi, March 18 (IANS) In the latest twist to the constantly unfolding political drama in Madhya Pradesh, the BJP has complained to the Election Commission (EC) against senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh, accusing him of trying to influence the outcome of the Rajya Sabha polls due to be held on March 26.

On Wednesday, the BJP wrote to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), that the former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister is trying to contact the 16 rebel Congress MLAs holed up in a Bengaluru resort for the last 10 days.

In his written complaint to the CEC on Wednesday, the BJP’s Rajya Sabha candidate Sumersingh Solanki’s election agent alleged that the former Madhya Pradesh chief minister, who is contesting the Rajya Sabha elections, is trying to contact the rebel Congress party MLAs in a bid to influence the outcome of the polls.

Digvijaya Singh had reached the Karnataka capital Bengaluru on Tuesday and tried to meet the 16 rebel Congress MLAS, but was prevented from doing so by the Karnataka Police.

The rebel Congress MLAs have been staying at a Bengaluru resort, in BJP’s ‘safekeeping’, after they came out in support of Jyotiraditya Scindia who quit the Congress and joined the BJP on March 10. Ever since, the Congress government in Madhya Pradesh has been facing uncertainty.
