Designers to promote traditional products of UP
Lucknow, Aug 20 (IANS) Well-known designers will now promote the traditional art and handiwork of the state under the ‘One District One Product’ (ODOP) scheme.
Ritu Beri will market the famous chikan craft of Lucknow and JJ Valaya will market the home decor products of Hapur and Baghpat.
Rina Dhaka will promote the handicrafts of Bareilly and Manish Malhotra will focus on the patchwork of Khadi from Aligarh.
These names were finalised at a webinar, held by MSME minister Siddharth Nath Singh and additional chief secretary, MSME, Navneet Sehgal, in which these designers were also present.
Sehgal, who supervises the ODOP campaign, said that these world famous designers have agreed to work for the ODOP and take the handicrafts and traditional art to the international level.
The designers, he said, would soon start working for the promotion of the art products.
“This will give massive push to the chief minister’s flagship ODOP scheme,” he said.
The official said that the ODOP items had already made a mark in certain countries where they are much in demand, like the ‘itr’ (perfume) of Kannauj.
“These traditional products lack aggressive marketing and packaging. These designers would address these issues,” he added.
