COVID-19: RS members ask people to cooperate in govt efforts

New Delhi, March 23 (IANS) Rajya Sabha members have urged the people to bear with the restrictions imposed by the central and state governments and cooperate in the ongoing efforts to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

The House also urged the people to be guided by the spirit of Sunday’s ‘Janata Curfew’ when they confined themselves indoors for 14 hours.

Members endorsed the laudatory observations made by House Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu to the public response to the Sunday lockdown called by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Naidu observed: “The extraordinary response of the people (on Sunday) was a clear demonstration of the collective resolve of the nation to address the formidable challenge (of coronavirus). This House takes note of this positive response and also the need to keep focussed on concrete action and keeping this spirit alive as we brace ourselves for the challenges ahead in the coming weeks.”

He added: “The House also appreciates the central and state governments for their timely and effective interventions. This House also expresses hope that collectively we shall overcome this huge challenge in the coming weeks.”
