Covid-19 red zones’s count in S-E Delhi district rises to 19

New Delhi, April 21 (IANS) The South East district of the national capital on Tuesday got another containment zone in the Hari Nagar Extension after four people living in two houses tested coronavirus positive, taking the total count of containment zones in the district to 19.

According to an official in the District Magistrate’s (South-East) office, street number one (Shiv Mandir wali gali) Harsh Vihar, Hari Nagar Extension, has been sealed. “Four people living in two houses have tested Covid-19 positive. Around 35 houses with over 200 people have been sealed,” an official told IANS.

As many as 17 people had been put into home quarantine and three shifted to institutional care, the official said and added, the containment zone was announced because of non-availability of contact history of Covid-19 positive persons in the locality.

“Also, the area is thickly populated and required complete surveillance in order to contain the coronavirus infection,” the official said.

According to the Delhi government, till Monday, there were 84 containment zones, with the highest 18 in the South East district. With Hari Nagar Extension as new red zone, the tally has risen to 19.

The West district has the second highest (13) containment zones.

An area is marked containment or red zone by the administration if three or more coronavirus cases are found there and then the police seals it and all movements of the people are stopped. The essential supplies are maintained by the authorities.
