Covid-19: India frees export of anti-malarial drug Hydroxychloroquine

New Delhi, June 18 (IANS) India on Thursday lifted the restriction on the export of anti-malarial drug Hydroxychloroquine, which is widely used around the world as a prophylactic to fight Covid-19.

In March, the Centre had imposed curbs on the export of Hydroxychloroquine and formulations used to manufacture the medicine.

According to a late night notification by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the export status of the medication and the composition ingredients have been changed from “prohibited” to “free”.

The notification was issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT).

India is a major exporter of Hydroxychloroquine, which has witnessed a surge in demand amid the novel coronavirus crisis.
