‘Congress should come up with exit strategy from lockdown’

New Delhi, April 24 (IANS) The Congress has asked the government about its lockdown exit strategy but the opposition party leaders are wary about the party’s future connect with the masses and party workers as the social distancing norms may remain post-lockdown, sources said.

In the working committe meeting held on Thursday the issue was raised by a member as party discussed various aspects of the corona issue, the leaders wanted that the party should think about strategy adopted by the Congress after the lockdown is over .

Soures say Congress Working Committee member and former Union Minister Jitin Prasada asked the party leaders to think of a strategy besides giving suggestions and recommendations to the government on Covid that how will the party “connect to workers and masses ” post-lockdown.

Speaking to IANS Prasada did not deny but said “the issues discussed in the party forums are not be divulged in the press until it finds place in the resolution.”

Many Congress leaders in anonymity accepted this problem and said politics cannot be done while social distancing norms are there.

The leaders suggested that party should develop social media tools or apps to connect to workers first and then to the people. The party leaders are meeting virtually through Zoom or Skype adhering to social distancing norms

The party has a Shakti app to connect with workers which had been used to connect workers in run up for elections but now it is dormant.

The party workers are working in the lockdown to provide relief and rehabilitation as Rahul Gandhi has appreciated their work. But after the lockdown how will workers connect to the leaders and masses is a big issue before the party.

The Congress was planning political activity throughout the year in UP which has been postponed due to the Covid-19. The Congress has been decimated in two general elections and rebuilding the party is necessary said a leader.
