Chandigarh Advisor gets too many requests for b’day cakes

Chandigarh, April 29 (IANS) Chandigarh Advisor Manoj Parida, here on Wednesday, said he was planning to block his direct message on Twitter as he was getting too many requests for cakes amid lockdown.

“I plan to block my direct message facility since I am getting too many requests to send birthday cakes to certain people,” he tweeted.

At this, Punjab Special Chief Secretary K.B.S. Sidhu, in-charge to monitor coronavirus cases, replied to him in a tweet, “You can have the cake and eat it too”.

“Pass them on to us — for Markfed or Milkfed gift pack. After all, Chandigarh is the capital of Punjab, too,” Sidhu said.

Eight more people tested positive for coronavirus in Chandigarh on Wednesday, taking the total cases to 67.

In the neighbouring Panchkula, the police received a tweet from one of the relatives of an elderly man, Karan Puri, who turned 71 on Tuesday, requesting to celebrate his birthday as he was alone at home. His children live abroad.

The police decided to celebrate his birthday by sending a cake. Seeing cops at his gate with a cake, Puri was in tears. “I am living alone. My kids live abroad. What can I do for you for this surprise,” he asked.
