Bhutia to be part of AFC’s #BreakTheChain campaign

New Delhi, March 28 (IANS) Former India skipper Bhaichung Bhutia will be an integral part of the Asian Football Confederation’s (AFC) efforts to create awareness among the general public about the coronavirus pandemic. The outbreak has seen the world come to a standstill with sporting activities around the world being suspended.

The #BreakTheChain campaign by AFC features some of the legends of the game from Asia and they will all share messages to help the citizens across the globe understand what are the directives that need to be adhered to in these troubled times. The footballers will remind the people of the practices that need to be followed as per the World Health Organization (WHO).

“The #BreakTheChain campaign features some of Asia’s finest from all across the Continent, such as 2018 AFC Women’s Player of the Year, Wang Shuang from China PR, Indian legend Bhaichung Bhutia and Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors’ and 2016 AFC Champions League winner Lee Dong-gook with several more big names poised to join the series in the upcoming instalments,” the AFC said in a statement.

Not just footballers, but also sportspersons across the globe are using social media to send out messages to ensure that people follow the directives of the government as the world has joined hands to fight the pandemic.

With some Indian citizens failing to abide by the lockdown rules implemented by the government, Kohli on Friday made an appeal to all to strictly follow the guidelines that have been set by not just the government, but also medical experts in our fight against the coronavirus outbreak.

Taking to Twitter, Kohli said: “Hello, I am Virat Kohli. Today I am speaking to you not as an India player, but as a citizen of the country. What I have seen in the last few days — people moving in groups, not abiding by curfew rules, not following lockdown guidelines — it shows that we are taking the fight very lightly. But this fight is not as easy as it looks or feels.

“I wish to request everyone to please maintain social distancing and follow it. Also we should follow the directives given by the government and just for once think how you would feel if due to your negligence someone in your family gets affected by the virus. Please follow the experts as they are working very hard. It will only be successful when we follow our duties rather than going out in groups and breaking rules. This for me is an act against the country’s well-being. So now, I along with all of you wish to see things improve and please follow the directives of the government. Jai Hind!”
