Bengal Guv hits out at Trinamool over Amphan relief

Kolkata, June 26 (IANS) West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar on Friday took a dig at the Mamata Banerjee-led state administration over the issue of Amphan relief distribution work in various cyclone-ravaged districts and the subsequent protests by villagers demanding immediate redressal of the matter.

“Protests over corruption, nepotism and politicisation in Amphan relief distribution are rocking the State. Worrisome law and order scenario in East Midnapore, South and North 24 Parganas as BDO offices are being gheraoed,” the Governor tweeted.

Dhankhar also said that lip facade will not work. Officials must face the consequences for such omission acts and abandonment of their work to political party.

“Officials must be booked for acts of omission and commission. Non-entitled beneficiaries should be penalised and the benefits retrieved,” he said.

The Governor said that no political party has the legitimacy to draw a list of beneficiaries. “This is usurpation of state power. Dimensions of illegalities if unchecked would shape another scam. Let us act in time,” Dhankhar added, demanding the state government to take exemplary correctional steps on an urgent basis.

Irate villagers staged sit-in demonstrations in various West Bengal districts, protesting the irregularities over the disbursements of Amphan relief funds across the state.
