Amazon Prime Video bags the digital rights for Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan

Chiyaan Vikram and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s upcoming movie, ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ will premiere on Amazon Prime Video after its theatrical run. According to the report, the digital streaming rights for the film have been bagged by Amazon Prime Video for Rs 125 crore. ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ is a period drama, directed by ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam.

The film is based on a famous historical Tamil novel of the same title written by Kalki Krishnamurthy. The novel has been written in five volumes. It narrates the story of Arulmozhi Varman. Arulmozhi Varman was later crowned as Rajaraja Chola I and he was the most powerful king of his time who reinstated the glory of the Chola dynasty during his reign during the 10th and 11th centuries.

The film has an ensemble star cast with Vikram, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, and Trisha in the lead. The supporting cast includes Parthiban, Sarathkumar, Prakash Raj, Prabhu, Jayaram, Rahman, Jayasudha, Lal, Vikram Prabhu, Shobita Dhulipala, and Aishwarya Lekshmi.

The film is bankrolled by Allirajah Subaskaran and Mani Ratnam’s Madras Talkies. The music for the film is by AR Rahman. Cinematography for the magnum opus is by Ravi Varman, editing by Sreekar Prasad, and art direction by Thota Tharani. The film is set to hit screens on September 30 worldwide in Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, Telugu, and Hindi.
