63.8% Indians agree that social, gender inequality makes society dissatisfied
New Delhi, July 6 (IANS) As per the IANS CVoter GMRA Happiness Index tracker, it is evident that most Indians wish to live in a more equitable society where people are treated equally irrespective of their social standing or gender.
In the survey conducted as part of developing an Happiness Index for India, on the question of social and gender inequality, 49.3 per cent strongly agreed with the statement that “social and gender inequality makes the society dissatisfied,” while another 14.5 per cent agreed with the statement to some extent.
In a survey conducted across India, surprisingly, more male participants strongly agreed with the statement compared to female with 53.2 per cent of male respondents agreeing with the statement compared to 44.9 per cent female responding with strong agreement.
A total of 13.3 per cent male participants agreed with the statement to some extent while 15.9 per cent female participants responded till some extent.
Among age groups, only 39.7 per cent old people (60 years and above) agreed with the statement that gender inequality makes society dissatisfied while 23.4 per cent of old people agreed with the statement to some extent.
Among the young population, 50.5 per cent of freshers (below 25 years) strongly agreed with the statement while 11 per cent agreed to some extent. Among the young (25-45 years) participants, 49.7 per cent strongly agreed with the statement while 13.7 per cent agreed to some extent.
Among the higher income group, 64 per cent of respondents strongly agreed with the statement while 42 per cent of participants in lower income group strongly agreeing to the statement. A total of 20.1 per cent in the lower income group disagreed with the statement that social and gender inequality makes society dissatisfied while 13.3 per cent in the higher income group showed strong disagreement to the statement.
In country specific regions, 24.6 per cent respondents from east showed strong agreement with the statement while 56.7 per cent from north India responded with strong agreement with the statement.
The survey was conducted by Cvoter in association with Delhi based NGO Gender Mainstreaming Research Association (GMRA) as part of their ongoing effort to develop a comprehensive Happiness Index for India.
